Admissions Criteria

Pre-K Admission Criteria

St. Monica adheres to the age requirements and grade placement policies established by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB ED). Students who meet the required age for admission to Pre-K and Kindergarten by the established eligibility will be enrolled in the appropriate grade level. Requests to delay enrollment or to place an age-eligible student in a lower grade solely because of age or perceived readiness will not be approved. Exceptions to grade placement will be considered on a case by case basis, and only in extraordinary circumstances and in accordance with TCCB ED policies and school administration. Students are admitted to St. Monica Catholic School based on the following criteria:

• Completed application with required documentation
• Screening/Placement Test
• Principal/Director Recommendation (if applicable)
• Teacher Recommendation (if applicable)
• Student Records (if applicable)
• 3's class - must be 3 on or before September 1, potty trained, and have a sibling currently enrolled at St. Monica Catholic School
• 3's class - if there are more qualified candidates than allotted seats, a random drawing will be held to determine the priority of admission
• 4’s class – must be 4 on or before September 1 and potty trained

After academic and behavioral standards are confirmed and all information is received, the Admissions Committee determines the admission of new students to St. Monica Catholic School.

Kindergarten - 5th Grade Admission Criteria

Students are admitted to St. Monica Catholic School based on the following criteria:

• Principal Recommendation
• Teacher Recommendation
• Student Records
• Kindergarten candidates must be 5 years old on or before September 1
• 1st Grade candidates must be 6 years old on or before September 1

After academic and behavioral standards are confirmed and all information is received, the Admissions Committee determines the admission of new students to St. Monica Catholic School.
 

6th - 8th Grade Admission Criteria

Students are admitted to St. Monica Catholic School based on the following criteria:

• Completed application with required documentation
• Family Interview
• Screening/Placement Test
• Principal Recommendation
• Math Teacher Recommendation
• English Teacher Recommendation
• Student Records

After academic and behavioral standards are confirmed and all information is received, the Admissions Committee determines the admission of new students to St. Monica Catholic School.

Prospective students shall receive priority in the admission process using the following levels, once academic and behavioral standards are met:

• Registered St. Monica Catholic Church families in “good standing” with a currently enrolled sibling.
• Families with a currently enrolled sibling.
• Registered St. Monica Catholic Church families in “good standing”. 
• Non-parish families that are current with respect to all financial commitments at their home parish and/or previous school.
  • Have a parent or sibling who graduated from St. Monica Catholic School.
  • New applicants (If necessary, a random selection process will be used to determine placement)
• Non-Catholic families that are current with respect to all financial commitments at their home church and/or previous school.
  
  

Being a parishioner or sibling of a current student does not guarantee admission to St. Monica Catholic School.

* Waiting list – Applicants placed on the waiting list will be admitted based on availability and the criteria listed above. Waitlists are not carried over to the next admissions cycle.
